Who is the Spring Hill Elementary Counselor?

My name is Shelby Fleming and I am the school counselor at Spring Hill Elementary. I obtained my Masters of Arts in Counseling degree at MidAmerica Nazarene University. I worked with children in the mental health field for a few years before I decided to transition into school counseling. It is my goal to assist children and families overcome challenges and develop towards their full potential!

What does a school counselor do?

The school counseling program is designed to encourage student growth in social-emotional, academic, and career planning skills. I provide services such as classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions for students. Lessons and small groups may cover topics such as friendship skills, leadership, bully prevention, conflict resolution, study skills, sadness, worrying, coping with grief, and anger management. Students can ask to meet with me or be referred by parents or teachers.

I can also work together with a student's outpatient counselor if the student receives professional mental health services. If parents think their child needs to see a mental health professional, I can help connect families with appropriate counselors.

Please feel free to contact me if your student is experiencing any social, emotional, or behavioral concerns. Your child can also ask their teacher or stop by my office if they want to meet with me. I want to help every student have a successful school year!
